Joy in Smartphone is as long as the battery is juiced up. Nothing can irritate or handicap our lifestyle than a chargeless phone, tablet or other device and they always miraculously run out of steam the moment we want it badly.
It’s this very reason it’s a wise thing to pack a portable charger which lets you fire your devices without having to scramble for AC outlet.
Portable chargers comes in various designs, capacity, output and performance factors. When you go shopping for portable charger or power banks key points to keep in mind are: Capacity, Output, Price, Form factor and performance.
There are many brands out there catering to various needs and what we have at our review desk is AsiaPower Powerbank AP-2200A. As the name indicates the unit has a power capacity of 2200 mAh (Milliamp Hour).
The box contains the power bank, micro USB cable and a user guide.
The USB cable comes with a choice of micro-USB as well as 2mm charging pin. So you can choose the compatible input for your device.
The Power bank itself comes at a dimension of 90x25x25 mm and weighs 75 gm in a small rectangle torchlight shape. It’s easy to sneak in your handbag or pocket on the move.
The battery type is of Lithium Ion with a input of 5V/1A and a output of 5V, 1A. The company claims a recharge cycle of 500 times.
We did a performance test and we will talk about it below.

When fully charged, the indicator light turns to a blue glow. In our test, it took 4 hours for complete charge.
We tested the Powerbank AP-2200A with Samsung Galaxy S3 which has a battery capacity of 2100 mAh, a tad less than the capacity of AP-2200A.
For our test, we had completely drained the Galaxy S3 down to zero charge. The initial 30% recharging was fairly quick and after 1 and half hours the phone showed 60% power up.
At 70% the charging stopped. AP-2200A was no more juicing up the device and I have to plug the smartphone out. I kept the portable charger again for a 10 minutes charge and when I plugged it back to the phone for a quick test, it showed sign of charging but fainted out soon.
TR Verdict:
Powerbank AP-2200A is priced at Rs. 999 ($18). At this price and with a capacity of 2200 mAh, it definitely offers more value for money per output compared to the competing models. Though our tests revealed, it juices up only 70% of the device with a 2100 mAh battery capacity which translates to 1470 mAh. So do check your device battery capacity, if it’s less than 1470 mAh, you can be sure of full recharge every time and above that and below 2200 mAh, you will get 3/4th charge. On emergency situation, it charges the first 20% a bit quickly.
Overall, for the price it is a fairly good pick.]]>
