After teasing ‘coming soon’ on social media for way too long, Jolla today launched their first Smartphone in India at Rs 16,499 and it will be available exclusively from e-commerce website, Snapdeal.
For the uninitiated, Jolla is formed by a group of ex-Nokia employees and the eponymous smartphone available today is their only Smartphone in their kitty running on SailFish OS developed by SailFish Alliance. Based on Linux kernel, the SailFish OS traces its ancestry to the erstwhile MeeGo platform. If you are worried about the apps, the new OS is compatible with the Android apps and though you won’t have Google Play Store you can download the Android apps through third-party Android market places.
The Jolla smartphone features a 4.5-inch IPS qHD display (540×960 pixels) , 1.4GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The camera specs include a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and the device includes a 2,100mAh battery. Connectivity options include LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Jolla device is devoid of any physical buttons barring a power button and a volume rocker, there is no capacitive buttons either. The UI is intuitive and uses a combination of gesture based navigation.
The company has announced that the first 90 customers would get a VIP box which would come with replaceable back covers in Aloe, Poppy Red and Keira Black colors.
