Unveiled earlier this month at IFA event, Berlin Sony Xperia Z1 is launched today in India. The highlight of the new flagship device from the Japanese giant is the mammoth 20.7 megapixel camera which is only bettered by Nokia Lumia 1020’s 41 megapixel PureView camera but then Lumia runs on Windows platform. In Android world, Sony Xperia Z1 is the current megapixel giant. The 20.7 megapixel rear camera includes a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS CMOS image sensor. The Xperia Z1 also features Sony’s own G Lens with 27mm wide-angle and f/2.0 aperture and the camera comes with BIONZ mobile image processing engine. Also included is a 2-megapixel front facing camera. Like the recent Xperia flagship models, Xperia Z1 is also water-proof and dust-proof and follows the company’s omni-balance design language. Specs-wise, Sony Xperia Z1 features a 5-inch full HD (1980×1080 pixels) display with Sony’s Triluminus display technology that the company introduced first with Xperia Z Ultra. It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2GB of RAM and Adreno 330 graphics. Internal storage includes a 16GB which can be expanded further via microSD card. The device uses a 3000mAh battery. Z1 runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Sony has included number of camera software features like Social Live which allows live-streaming to Facebook, Info-eye, a visual search engine that allows to capture the image on camera and search related information. Sony also has introduced their own version of SmartAR augmented reality technology. The camera comes with software enhancements like Social live, which lets you broadcast live to Facebook and get your friends’ comments right on your screen. Info-eye is a visual search function that provides related information on landmarks and on items such as books or wine by capturing them with the camera. AR effect overlays a selection of customizable animations to create pictures using Sony’s SmartAR augmented reality technology.
