Aircel, one of the leading player in the South Indian telecom market today announced a plan that does away with the roaming charges for its Aircel customers within the five South Indian states. The ‘Five States, One Rate’ does not need any special pack or activation and is applicable for both its prepaid and postpaid customers. The offer covers the five states namely Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala but the free roaming is applicable only on the Aircel network. When we spoke to Kanwarbir Singh, Karnataka circle head, Aircel he stated this as an experimental offering since Aircel has strong presence in these five states and possibly they will roll-out the offering on pan India level depending on the data gathered from these five states. It should be noted that Aircel has presence in 23 telecom circles across India. So if you are an Aircel customer and traveling between these states you will incur no incoming call charges. The outgoing calls will be charged at 1p/ sec for both local and STD calls and the SMS and Pocket internet packs will remain unchanged as per their existing plans. Though it has to be stated the free roaming and the call benefits will be applicable only when the users are within the Aircel network, so the company advices to shift manually to Aircel network while going out of their local network area. The offering will be activated by default from 11th June, 2015 to all the existing and new customers.]]>
