Transsion Holdings owned Tecno mobiles is quiet bullish about the Indian market and it is evident by the back to back successive launches. The newest addition to their Smartphone portfolio here in India is the Tecno Camon iTwin. The Camon iTwin comes with two firsts for the brand.

Tecno Camon iTwin Design

The iTwin is made of polycarbonate body and measures 8.5mm thickness and 161grams in weight. It has a unibody design and comes in a matte black finish. The back has the dual camera and LED flash along with the fingerprint sensor and Tecno branding. The top has no housings and is bare. The bottom has the audio jack, mic, microusb port and the speaker. The right side has the power button and volume rocker. The left side has the SIM tray slot, upon opening you find a triple tray. It can house two SIM and one dedicated microSD card. iTwin is a 4G VoLTE smartphone.

Tecno Camon iTwin Display

People increasingly use their Smartphone videos to watch videos and so the bigger display is most sought for these days, thanks to the 18:9 aspect ratio , the taller design of Smartphone means more room for display size without having to worry about the palm size to hold. The iTwin has a big 2.5D display sporting a 6-inch IPS display with HD+ resolution. The display is strengthened by NEG glass. With a 500nits brightness, the screen is brightly lit and is decent enough. The display setting has a blue filter toggle to protect your eyes while using the phone at night, adaptive brightness and ambient display. It also has notification light.

Out of the box, it runs on Android Oreo 8.0 with their custom UI HiOS layered upon. There is an app drawer which is a bit rare among the custom UIs these days. Tecno Camon iTwin Processor, memory and storage

So far the Tecno phones in India came with Mediatek processor, the Camon iTwin gets a Snapdragon chipset under its hood. The entry level Snapdragon 425 finds its way, along with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, with an option for expanding memory card via dedicated microSD card. The SD 425 is a time tested decent processor for day to day tasks.

Tecno has been steadily increasing their foothold in the Indian Smartphone market and the latest report shows it gaining ground as the fifth largest Smartphone player in India within its one year of operations in the country. Tecno Smartphones retail offline in stores and they have managed to spread a good number of retail points across India. Their latest addition to their portfolio is the Tecno Camon iClick. Already I have talked about the Tecno Camon iClick first impression, so am not going to run through the design aspects of the iClick again here, you can hop over that post for the design part, the link is here. On a quick note, the Camon iClick is clad in metal body and is available in two colors – gold and black. The Smartphone has a good ergonomics, it measures 7.8mm in thickness and is 150 grams in weight a perfect measures for every day handling.

The UI is decent. With my discussions with consumers, many people are keen on the extra features UI offers compared to the stock experience and Tecno packs some of the features which consumer might like.

Smartphones exclusively for offline channels have till date been facing tough challenge to maintain costs and specifications of the Smartphones. We have seen phones even now offering 3GB / 32GB storage for around 15K in offline markets. Tecno pushes the offline game by offering 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, which is commendable. The phone runs on Medaitek P23 chipset, which proves to be a decent processor for daily needs. It might not be the best out there for heavy gaming needs but for a normal user who looks for a decent processor for his day to day mobile uses, this would work. Call quality is good, the speaker quality is decent enough too.

There is too much of buzz about AI in Smartphones these days, Tecno also claims to bring AI capability to the front camera in iClick. The AI features include AI bokeh, auto scene detection for better software algorithm for pictures, AI beauty capabilities. The iClick stresses upon its selfie importance with a 20MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and at the rear has a 16MP camera with f/1.8 aperture. Rear camera also can take decent pictures as evident by the sample. You can shoot videos up to 1080p. The iClick has a 3750mAh battery. With P23 processor that doesn’t strain the battery much and HD+ resolution, the iClick has a solid battery life and you can easily push through a day and a half.

Verdict:

Many reviewers and people who buy phones online fail to recognize and accept that offline retail format is a different ball game including the demands of the users in that segment. These particular set of consumers are not very keen on the specifications on the paper like processor but more on the storage, RAM and camera pixels. With 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, dedicated microSD card and good camera specs and AI to talk about, the Tecno ticks the requirement list of these segment and does a good job at it. With an increasing footprint in retail outlets , Tecno has a potential good performer for this segment. At Rs 13,999 it does looks promising for the segment and might have many takers.]]>

Camon iClick is clad in metal body and is available in two colors – gold and black. The phone measures 7.8mm in thickness and is 150 grams in weight. The iClick has a good ergonomics and is non-slippery. It fits well in hand and has smooth curves and edges. The antenna lines are on top and bottom and look neat. At the back, the Smartphone has a 16MP camera with f/1.8 aperture, quad flash, fingerprint sensor and Tecno branding in the middle. The right side has the power button, volume buttons and the SIM tray. Already we had done the Tecno Camon i review and particularly was impressed with the Tecno Camon i camera performance which we raved about in our review. Another Smartphone from the Tecno portfolio in India is the affordable Tecno Camon i Air priced at Rs 7,999 and let’s take a first look at this Smartphone now.

Things have brightened up for entry level Smartphones, even a few seasons back a consumer had to sacrifice on design aspects when going for an entry level mobile but not any more. Take Tecno Camon i Air, it is slim, light weight and has a tall design following the latest trend of 18:9 aspect ratio, resulting in a neat looking device. The back houses the 13MP camera and the quad-LED light in a pill design. There is a fingerprint sensor in the middle along with Tecno branding. The smartphone is available in Champagne Gold, Midnight Black colours across India. The right side has the volume buttons and the power button, both offering a good tactile response and at easy reach of the finger.The left side has the sim tray, housing a dual SIM slot and a dedicated microSD card slot. The phone supports 4G VoLTE. The top has the audio jack. The bottom fits in the speaker grille, mic and the microUSB port. The Camon i Air is highly ergonomic and is not slippery on hand. Again, going with the wind, the Tecno Camon i Air brings the full view 18:9 aspect ratio to affordable segment and has a 5.65″ display and a HD+ resolution. With this aspect ratio, the 5.65″ screen makes this phone compact on hand. The display bright and vivid. It is also one of the better display I have seen in this segment. The display settings has a eye care mode which is the blue filter toggle. The phone has notification light and there is a full screen mode in the display settings where you can choose the app to take the full view advantage.

The Camon i Air runs on Android Nougat 7.0 with their own HioS UI layered on top. The UI is not complicated though. The UI offers gesture action to quick start apps from lockscreen, flip to mute, music gestures for controls on the music app, three finger screenshot etc.

The fingerprint sensor in the Camon i Air is fairly quick and it also allows you to secure your apps. Additionally, you can use the fingerprint sensor area to take photo when on camera app or accept incoming calls by touching on the sensor area.

Tecno Camon i Camera Review – A Best in the Class Camera Performance

Tecno is stressing upon the camera performance in their Camon series. While we have seen many companies promising better camera but in reality under Rs 10,000 most camera remain an under performer. In our Tecno Camon i camera review, let’s find out if this camera optics lives up to the promise. In case you have not come across Camon i yet, it’s an android Smartphone comes with a 5.65-inch HD+ IPS display with a full view vision and 18:9 aspect ration. It is powered by Mediatek MT 6735 chipset, 3GB of RAM and has a 32GB of storage with an provision for dedicated microSD card slot. It runs on Android Nougat with their own HiOS UI topping it. Videos up to 720p

Let’s begin with the camera app. The camera app has video, photo, beauty and panaroma mode. You can also access various filters. There is also the HDR mode, square picture option and selfie toggle. Tucked in the settings page is a gesture action to trigger the shutter. Camera app is fairly easy to use. I didn’t notice lag while taking pictures, the app is responsive. Day light pictures come good. I liked the soft blur in the background, even though there is no specific portrait mode. This image was taken in a moving car and I had no issue with focusing. The color reproduction is natural. The camera doesn’t unnecessarily boost the saturation levels, which is a good sign. The images are fairly sharp (even though the images here have been compressed for web) and you can notice the nice softness in the background. Glasses are always tricky subject and in day light, Camon i managed to capture it well too and with the right colors. I tested the camera under various artificial light scenarios with various levels of brightness and the result was impressive for the segment. It does loose a bit of sharpness when the ambient light is not so optimal. The lush green and the color gradient under light clearly demonstrates the camera capabilities of the Camon 1 and the software processing. Again a not so optimal indoor light but still the colors are vivid and captured really what I saw. The dynamic range is satisfactory. The surprise package of the Tecno Camon 1 is when we take low-light shots. I have come across a very few Smartphone in this segment that can take decent low light / night shots, you can count Camon 1 in that list. A bit of noise is there but the low light images are decent with better color reproduction. I can clearly say Tecno Camon 1 really excels in the low light performance than most other Smartphone in this price segment. Camon i features a quad-LED flash at the rear. The flash is not so harsh like in many Smartphones. Selfies are good as well (though am not a selfie guy!) In good light, the selfie is sharp. There is also a LED flash for low-light selfies and also screen flash. Videos are decent , there is no image stabilization which is not expected in this price range in any case but a bit of disappointment is the fact the video capture is limited to 720p. A fullHD would have made it a sweeter deal.

Verdict:

Tecno Camon i lives up to the promise by the company to deliver a camera-centric Smartphone. It is one of the best in the segment and surprisingly excels well in the low-light photography too.]]>

Tecno wants to change the perception and give the buyers a good deal at brick and motor stores with their new Smartphone. In this Tecno Camon i Review, find out what Tecno has to offer and Camon i is a good buy or not.

The soft case has been nicely done with flaps to cover the audio jack and usb port when not in use, so it doesn’t gather dusts.

Design and build quality

Tecno Camon i has a crowd pleasing design and is available in a midnight black color,blue and gold. It has a plastic body but feels good on hands. The corners are rounded and the side edges smooth. The device is ergonomic with a tall boy design which is in trend now. The antenna lines are at the edges of the top and bottom. The rear has the 13-megapixel rear camera and 5P lens at the top corner and fingerprint sensor in the middle, with the Tecno branding a little below. The bottom houses the speaker grille, microusb port and a mic. A audio jack occupies the lonely spot at the top. The right side has the power button and the volume button and they are easy to access and offers a good tactile feedback. A SIM tray nests on the left side. Many would appreciate the fact it can accommodate two SIM and has a dedicated microSD card slot to expand the storage further.

Display

The front has the on-screen navigation buttons at the chin and there is the 13MP selfie camera, LED flash, earpiece grille and sensors at the forehead. The bezels are very less as is the design trend now. That brings us to the display. The Tecno Camon i has a 5.65-inch IPS display with a HD+ (1440 x 720p ) resolution. The full-view display with the 18:9 aspect ration cuts no corners when it comes to the in-thing in the mobile world now. The display is bright and vivid with good viewing angles and sunlight legibility. The display settings also has a eye care mode for comfortable use at night and darker areas.

Software

Tecno Camon i runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with their own HiOS UI topping it. There is no app drawer. The HiUI brings few changes and additions to the stock android. The home page has a power widget that give you the estimated usage time left and the power remaining and also has a quick toggle to shift to ultra power mode, if your battery juice is running low. You can choose to remove the widget, if you want to and alternatively opt to enable the ultra low power mode from the power saving management settings. There are few add-on features in the micro intelligence settings like flip to music, gesture actions for music control, option to silence the incoming call by covering the screen, three finger screenshot and gesture actions to launch apps directly.

Fingerprint Sensor

The rear placed fingerprint sensor responds good with good accuracy and is fairly fast in unlocking the phone. It supports app lock and also includes some touch gestures on the sensor area to take photo and accept incoming calls.

Performance

Tecno Camon i is powered by MediaTek MT6735 chipset clocked at 1.3Ghz paired with a 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The processor may not be a sizzler but can take you through the daily usual tasks for most. If you are a gamer though, this might be a bit of an underpeformer when it comes to handling heavy games. Otherwise, it works well for most tasks. It supports split screen. Call quality is good and the speaker is loud enough too. Camon i lacks gyroscope sensor, so if you intend to play VR apps you might be disappointed.

Where Camon i sizzles though is on its camera performance. For a phone priced under Rs 10,000 in India it delivers and handles better image capabilities. I was quiet surprised by the quality of the images and more surprised with the low-light performance which most phones in this segment struggles. Day light pictures come very well while the low-light performance is one of the best I have seen in this category.The camera app has beauty, panaroma and HDR modes and can also take square pictures. The quad-LED flash is one of the better flash I have seen, usually I hate flash but this one is more manageable. Selfies come good too.
