Zoook Rocker Armor XL review : A rugged speaker with resounding bass

Whenever I step into an electronic shop, I love checking out the Bluetooth speakers section. The sheer variety of quirky designs excites me. Of course, my daily diet of music is served on my wireless devices and for the last few weeks my music is coming out of this robust black box named Zoook Rocker Armor XL. All bolted up, the Bluetooth speaker has a no-nonsense look and feel to it but how does the music feels stepping out of it? Let’s find it in this Zoook Rocker Armor XL review.

Specifications:

Some Bluetooth speakers are stylish, some cute but the Zoook Rocker Armor XL looks a mean machine. The angular frame with sharp edges and the exposed bolts on a black shade gives it a rugged face. The front and back looks almost identical except for the Zoook logo in the front and the flap covering the ports at the back. The top has the Armor XL branding etched on the surface and then there are six controls flushed to the top surface. The controls are on the predictable line – Power On/off, forward, backward, pause and a play button that also combines as call accept button. The rubberized grip that runs around the sides protects the speaker cushions it from drops and bumps and also makes it non-slippery. A flap covers a microUSB port to charge the speaker and a Aux input port. I always detest flaps on hinges in any product fearing it would snap anytime but have to live with this one at Armor XL. The speaker is splash proof, with a IPX5 rating but don’t try dipping it into a bucket of  water and the flaps helps in it. Out of the box, you also get a hanger strap in a sturdy rubber material, it can be screwed to its place with a nice chunky metallic head sewing it together. It’s convenient to carry the speaker around. The speaker is 20.3 cm in length and weighs 605 grams, making it a good solid box yet portable. So now let’s see how audio friendly it is? Let’s find out. The Armor XL with its 30 watts speaker produces rather loud music, which is a good news. The music is not meek like in some of the Bluetooth speakers and can really fill in a fairly large room. Underneath it houses a two 50mm diameter subwoofers and a single 45mm high frequency speaker. What is very noticeable on first hearing is its thumping bass. For the bass lovers who want a Bluetooth speaker in Rs 5,000 (US $ 80) price range (If you scout for deals, you can pick it for Rs 3,499, US$ 52)) this should fit their needs. While it delivers huge bass, it also manages to retain good clarity for the most part. Though on a high volume and for a genre with complex frequencies, the overwhelming bass can get cloudy. I like speakers with a good mix of all frequencies but my mother surprisingly quiet liked the Armor XL, she says the resounding bass is good as well as the sound output. So it boils down to individual preferences and the genre of music you enjoy but in nutshell, the Armor XL surprises in a good way and can please most in this price bracket. With a built-in microphone, you can also attend calls when your Smartphone is paired. The call quality is decent. There is a 3.5mm AUX input in case you want to connect via cable but do note with flaps open its not splash proof. The Bluetooth range is pretty good too, though the stated range is 33 feet, in real terms it depends on the walls around and various external factors. On a final note, the Zoook Rocker Armor XL is a neat buy if you love resounding bass and want a party on the go. It can turn on an instant party anywhere with its filling music. At Rs 5,999 the price might sound a wee bit high but if you manage to find a deal anything below Rs 4,000 its strikes a sweet spot.]]>
