Alongside it's latest flagship smartphone, Xperia Z2, Sony also took the wraps off a 10.1-inch tablet, Sony Xperia Z2 tablet sharing the s name and general hardware specs from the Z2 smartphone.
Just like the previous Xperia Tablet Z, the Xperia Z2 Tablet too is water and dust resistant, with scratch-proof glass panels but flaunts Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 801 processor and in all probability the very first of the tablets out there with it.
The 10.1-inch display houses a 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution and comes with Sony's latest mobile display technologies - Triluminos display with Live Color LED plus X-Reality mobile picture engine, which is shared by Xperia Z2 Smartphone also. Then we have the 2.23 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor under the boot and a neat 3GB of RAM and also Adreno 330 graphics. The internal storage is 16GB, expandable via a microSD card slot. The slate runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS.
The camera department sees a 8.1MP rear and 2MP front cameras and the rear camera comes with latest Exmor RS sensor. Both the cameras are capable of HD recording.
The tablet will be available in two version - Wi-Fi only and an LTE-enabled. The other connectivity options include NFC, GPS with GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0, IR emitter and microUSB 2.0 with MHL 3.0 support. Sony claims the Xperia Z2 Tablet's 6,000mAh lithium polymer battery can deliver 10 hours of uninterrupted multimedia playback without a recharge.
Z2 Tablet will be available in black and white, it will start retailing in March and there is no details on the pricing as yet but we will keep you updated.
