Samsung has added a new device to its tablet portfolio, a Wi-Fi only version Galaxy Tab 2 311, priced at Rs. 13,900 and sharing the same tech specifications as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100

Update: The price of Galaxy Tab 2 311 has been slashed to 12,750
[dropcap]P[/dropcap]lanning to pick a tablet? Are you ok with Wi-Fi only model? Now you have another option to look at from Samsung. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 311 is a Wi-Fi only variant with no SIM card option but otherwise similar in specification as the Galaxy Tab 2 P3100

Let’s do a quick run down on the tech specifications of Galaxy Tab 2 311. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 311 has a 7-inch display with 1024×600 pixel resolution. Its powered by 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. Good news? Galaxy Tab 2 311 comes out of box with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. It sports a dual camera with 3.15MP shooter on the rear and a VGA camera on the front for video calling. Connectivity options include WiFi, bluetooth and USB 2.0. Tab 2 311 has an internal storage of 16 GB that can be additionally expanded upto 32 GB with a microSD card. It is available in white and silver colour.
By bringing a tablet at sub-15K model, Samsung takes on the local manufacturers like Spice, Micromax and Karbonn in the low-cost entry level tablet market. Acer was the first big brand to enter the segment by launching Acer Iconia B1 at sub-10K price. Samsung already the leading tablet seller in India would be hoping to continue its good run with Galaxy Tab 2 311 priced at Rs.13,900. A good brand, good service and good retail support always does tricks to a brand and Samsung already has an enormous footprint and goodwill in the country.
We will bring out the full review of Galaxy Tab 2 3100, shortly. In case, you are interested do read our Galaxy Tab 2 3000 review in our sister website and also enjoy our video below we created sometime back.

Tablet market is exploding and there is a tablet for every price range but the bigger brands have shied away from sub 10K price range. Now Acer has taken the battle right into the crowded low-cost tablet ring and giving warning bells to the likes of Micromax and Karbonn and host of other smaller brands.
As reported earlier Asus launched its Iconia B1 tablet with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) for a sugary price of Rs. 7,999.

Unveiled last week at CES, Acer Iconia B1 has a 7-inch display with 1024×600 resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek processor (MTK 8317T). The 512MB RAM might not be impressive number and it comes with a 8GB internal storage, with an microSD card expandable upto 32 GB. Connectivity options on the Acer Iconia B1 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and Micro-USB. Also nested is a 0.3-megapixel front VGA camera for video calls.
Though the specs might not be a powerhouse, for a price point of Rs.7,999 and a tablet running on Android Jelly Bean OS and flashing a big brand sticker, its quiet a good deal.

This is going to be an irresistible rumour for Indians, and pray it comes true. We know that Acer is working on a 99$ tablet to rollout in 2013. With the world's increasing appetite for tablets and many small companies rolling out low-cost tablets to feed the growing market. A budget-friendly affordable tablet from a big player like Acer would be a game changer.

News channel, NDTV claims it got some source information that Acer’s low cost tablet, Iconia B1 would hit the Indian shores in the end of January and hold your breathe for the price of Rs. 7,999. If the source is true, this is a much better pricing than the Nexus 7 pricing for India that was released here a month ago.
If we are looking at a January end launch in India, Acer should be unveiling the product in CES event in Las Vegas next week. We will keep you updated on the developments.
Though there is no official words on the specs of the tablets. It is touted to be a 7″ screen with 1024×600 resolution and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor alongside 512MB RAM. In all probability, the tablet would be running on Jellybean Android OS. It is also rumoured to get a 8 GB internal memory with an expandable memory slot. Though, its all rumours, we will keep you updated as official news comes in.

So for all those who where saving the money and eyeing the arrival of Nexus 7 in India, the wait is over. Asus made Google branded Nexus 7 tablet would be available from tomorrow in stores and the 16 GB model is priced at Rs. 19,900. The same model is available in US for $199 and no, don't open the calculator and do the dollor conversion rates now. Sighs!
Google originally launched the Nexus 7 in 8 GB, 16 GB models priced at $199 and $249. Shortly in Oct 29, Google discontinued the 8 GB model and slashed the price of 16 GB to $199 and introduced a 32 GB model for $249. Though, Asus India has no comments on the availability of 32 GB model in India. Also the company is tight lipped about the launch of the 3G model which anyhow is available only in the 32 GB Nexus 7.
Nexus 7 was launched in July and received positive reviews. Asus claims it sells around one million Nexus 7 tablets a month, which is an impressive figure for an Android tablet, that has been overshadowed by Apple's invincible iPad march.
The 7-inch screen tablet has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Nexus 7 comes with the stock Jelly Bean Android OS and is devoid of any overlays that usually the tablet OEM's skim it to their models. Nexus 7 is powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. The tablet has no rear camera but sports a 1.2MP shooter on the front that allows for video calling. The 16 GB model that would retail in India would support only Wi-Fi connectivity and weighs around 340 grams and its battery promises for 9.5 hours of use.]]>

There is a sudden tablet rush in the market catering to different needs, requirements and customer profiles. One one end you have the likes of Ubislates with the tablets priced around 3K price and the other end you have the likes of Apple and Samsungs which flaunt their technology and upgrades that ofcourse comes at a steep price.b
With everyone want to own and experience the tablet resolution, the reality is not everyone can afford the high end tablets. It does not mean most would settle down to one of those low cost tablets just lured by the price. So the hunt would be on for the tablet that would offer the best value for money and also comes with a decent specs and good performance.
Bangalore based Digital Waves has launched a neat looking slim 7" screen tablet that looks good, delivers good performance and more importantly sports an attractive price tag. Priced at Rs.6,900 we found it a great bargain for the amount and here is why.

With Ice Cream Sandwich the latest flavour of Android and even with the big names of the Tablet industry still struggling to provide ICS update (am still awaiting upgrade for my Android tablet! *sighs*), this Ginger tablet comes with the ICS Android 4.0.3.
Also it packs a 1 GHz Cortex processor and a 512 MB RAM and has a 7″ capacitive LCD screen with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution.
On the form factor, the tablet is very impressive than most other tablets of its league even compared the likes of HCL, iBall and other similar makers. It looks sleek with a nice body case with a thickness of just 8.8 mm and weighing 380 grams and measuring 195x 123mm. It sports a good looking back panel that curves smoothly inside, a good texture that sits nicely on hands and sporting the brand name.

On the right hand side of the tablet nests most of the ports, slots and jacks which include a microSD slot, micro USB slot, a HDMI output, 3.5 mm headphone jack, built in mic and speaker.

On the left hand side sits the power on/off and the volume rocker.

So the botttom line is Tab plus Ginger sports a more than decent form factor and doesnt in any way looks a cheaper tablet. As far the performance, ofcourse there is a very slight lag but then I don’t think one should be really complaining about it considering the pricing of the tablet and the over all decent specs and quality.

Our final word, we are very impressed with this tablet for its value for money. If you want to buy it the only sore note is you would be hardpressed to find a retailer since it is available in limited stores. But you can directly place an order with the company and they would be couriering it to your door.

There is a phone. There is a Tablet. Now, you get Padfone.
Yes, last year Asus announced its protype Padfone which would merge the phone and tablet into a single symbiotic product. And now as per various reports, Asus has confirmed that the product would be officially released on 27th February at World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Between the official announcement last year and now the product seems to have been fine tuned, redesigned and also infused more power both to the layers of software and hardware since the tablets are gaining faster grounds and leaping ahead in technology. Asus has always been a frontrunner when it comes to tablet innovation and it would be interesting to see how consumers react to this new device.
The following pic shows how the phone would dock into the backside of the tablet – quiet neatly.

So what is a Padfone ?

Basically you have a 10.1″ tablet and a 4.3″ Asus Smart phone. As you see in the picture above, the tablet has a slot in the rear for the phone to plug into it. Once plugged in, the tablet uses the phone’s processing power while the phone derives the charge from the tablet’s battery. So the tablet in real sense would be only a screen and a battery built-in.

Since all the content would be stored in your phone, you don’t have to bother about syncing between devices. Another advantage Asus is looking at it cost cutting, since the hardware are shared and the tablet shell holds only the display and the battery. How far the cost sharing advantage would be? We have to wait and watch.
So what you think? Would you pad up to this Padfone?]]>
