The tphone was launched in the presence of Smartron’s strategic shareholder & brand Ambassador, Sachin Tendulkar and Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Government of Telangana, Shri. K T Rama Rao. tPhone like the tBook has a very characteristic look thanks to the choice of dual-color for the back panel they have chosen. Apart from the sunrise orange color we have seen at the tBook, the tPhone also comes in Classic Grey, Metallic Pink, Steel Blue colors. Another notable feature of the phone is its feather-weight at 149 grams. Inspite of the 5.5-inch display it’s super light on hand. The display features a fullHD (1920X180 pixels) , 401 PPI with super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display also boasts of a Apical Assertive display technology that promises better outdoor visibility.
Powering the device is a 64-bit Qualcomm© Snapdragon™ 810 processor V2.1 with Octa-croe CPUs backed by 4GB LPDDR4 @ 1600MHZ , a 64GB of onboard storage is a good add-on plus an option to further expand it via microSD card. Smartron also provides free unlimited tCloud, a cloud storage for its users. Running on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, the UI is stock Android so future updates should be easy to flow in. It also adds the tronX layer for seamless experience across the Smartron devices.
On the camera sise, the tPhone has a dual-flash 13MP rear camera with a 6 element lens setup. The front camera is a 4 megapixel with large 2µm pixel size which the company says offers a good low light performance.
The Smartphone also enriches the audio experience with the DTS PlayFi technology. The battery pack includes a 3000mAh pack with a USB Type C charger and Quick charge 2.0 technology. tPhone supports LTE, dual-SIM (Micro + Nano)
Talking on the occasion, Sachin Tendulkar said, “At Smartron, we take immense pride in the engineering and innovation spirit of India. Today, we are witnessing an Indian brand showcasing to the world, that smart technology products can compete with leading tech brands through path-breaking design and engineering. With this launch we are encouraged to work and represent India as a country known for product engineering and design innovation. As for Smartron this is just the beginning and it is time that India stood out in the smart technology space.”
Mr. K. Taraka Rama Rao, said, “I am delighted to be part of this historic occasion. With the IoT wave at its peak, it becomes important to seize this opportunity and design products, which will nurture the technology space in India. I look forward to Smartron, a homegrown brand taking us to the global product map and making us proud”.
The tphone is priced at Rs. 22,999/- and will be available for registration on gadget360.com and smartron.com and goes on sale in early June 2016.

While the tablets market is nosediving, the 2-in-1 segment is booming. They are convenient and are versatile. While the Surface Pro is the ultimate dream machine at one end of the spectrum, the other end has many entry-level machines running on piddly Intel Atom processors but Smartron, a new desi brand takes the middle path. It’s affordable, functional and can perform decently well running on Intel Core M and it got the good looks too.
In case you were living in dark lately, Smartron is an Indian company with big ambitions in IoT and they launched the tBook, a 2-in-1 detachable a few weeks back at Rs 39,999 and tPhone, their first Android Smartphone will make the debut next month. That Sachin Tendulkar has been impressed with the company and is backing it as an investor and brand ambassador gives the brand the extra visibility.
We got the retail box of the Smartron tBook and here is the unboxing and first impression of the convertible which runs on Windows 10 and retails at Gadgets360 and I was told will also hit the offline market very soon.
The packaging is interesting. Once unsealed, it cannot be reused. So when you buy this from a store or online, you can be rest assured that its a fresh piece from the manufacturer and is not opened up for demo purposes or for any other reason earlier.

A neat sturdy, white box sits inside with Smartron branding. The box gives a positive vibe, detailing matters at every stage and so far, so smart.

The box content also includes the keyboard

And the power brick with type-C adapter.

The t-Book has a 12.2-inch WQXGA display with IPS technology and supports multi-touch, the display has an oleophopic coating that avoids fingerprint smudges. The 2560-by-1600 resolution (2K) is a surprise addition at this price segment.
It looks very similar to Surface Pro but has a noticeable weight to it but it also gives the user a sturdy, solid build quality. It is made of Magnesium and Aluminum chassis.

The dual tone shade of burnt orange and grey gives it a very characteristic look. We don’t come across color dressing in this category routinely but there is also an all grey variant, in case you like to go subtle. I personally is fond of this oxidized orange shade and Smartron has done a fab job at the finishing and build quality.
A flip out stand is tucked in to the surface and is easy to release and is secures well. A cut out on the right bottom helps to easily flip the stand out and a 3.5 mm audio jack sits next to it.
The power and volume bottons are at the top. The right side has all the ports.
• 2xFull-size USB 3.0
• Micro HDMI port
• Micro SD card slot, expandable upto 128GB
• Type C(for charging) along with USB 3.0
The bottom has the magnetic pogo pin for keyboard. The detachable keyboard docks easily to the tablet to get into the laptop mode.
The keyboard is full sized and is easy to type. Though the track pad was over sensitive and a slightest touch annoyingly makes the browser smaller in the middle of the work. When the feedback was given to the Smartron team, they assured an update will fix the issue. Otherwise the keyboard works well plus it also serves as a flip cover for the display.
The t-Book has dual stereo speakers at the front and dual microphone nor noise cancellation. It is also equipped with a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and a front facing 2MP camera that can take HD video.

Powering the t-Book is 64-bit, Intel Core M processor offering a ‘good enough’ level of performance and a better power management operatimg at a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of just 4.5 watts. A 4Gb of 1600MHz LPDDR3 RAM is included and the tB0ok comes with a SSD storage of 128GB capacity. The microSD card can support another 128GB.
Smartron t-Book has a 10000mAh battery and the company claims it offers 10 hours of web browsing and 28 days of standby time. I will validate the battery life in my complete review after testing the product for a week.
My initial impression on the tBook remains optimistic. Good looks, attractive dual-color, solid build quality , neat display with brilliant touch response and my few hours spend on it so far (in fact am drafting this article on the tBook) has given it a positive start.

Hardware space is a tough place to be - its resource intensive and also demands a good share of marketing. Smartron does not have to worry about the marketing atleast, they have the God at their side and his investment too. So its a great start by the Indian company who wants to be India’s first true global IoT brand with “designed and engineered” in India for India.
At the launch event at Delhi, which saw Sachin joining the stage in the capacity of shareholder as well as brand ambassador, the company launched the t-Book which is an ultrabook convertible and also showcased the t-Phone which would be launched mid-April and and tron.x, its unique Smartron experience.

Mahesh Lingareddy, Founder & Chairman talked in length on the Smartron and its vision, some of them looked far-fetched and interesting to see how much would be deliverable but it is refreshing to see an Indian company not just looking at putting the latest specs at the lowest cost and throwing at the market. Smartron wants to build an ecosystem and provide an unified experience across various devices. It’s a challenging part building an ecosystem, I shall keep a tab on Smartron to see how it unfolds. If they had to convince Sachin, they sure had done some homework neatly.
The t-Book is the first product to roll out and the ultra convertible has been priced at Rs 39,999. Now, the ultra convertible space is a fast growing segment in India and the t-Book looks like a good debut. It will go on sale exclusively on Gadget360.com starting April 8th, 2016 and the t.phone booking will start on April 18th, 2016.

The t-Book is powered by Intel Core M processor and runs on Windows 10 OS. It comes with a detachable magnetic keyboard that gives a laptop experience and also can be used as tablet otherwise. All the Smartron devices features Hubtron, tron experience, what I understood from the brief talk is that it would be a cloud experience that brings all the contents seamlessly across the device. So right from the SMS to pictures from Smartron phone would be accessible in other devices say t-Book. I had a brief time with the t-Book and will publish my first impression on the product very soon, look forward to it.
Speaking at the launch, Mahesh said, ‘The success formula for making India globally competitive and respected is to ensure a holistic approach to the products and services and ensure they go hand-in-hand. Realizing the need for developing products and global brands from India for a global market, Smartron aims at innovating in this sphere’’.
For all of those who are interested in what the God of Indian cricket, Sachin had to say , here it is ““We are moving towards Internet driven experiences and Smartron’s vision in unlocking the potential of IoT will bring compelling experiences to people, making their life more productive, safe, intelligent and convenient. An Indian brand making a great leap into technology product innovation is commendable. I am delighted to be associated with Smartron, a global technology brand from India.”
So Smartron, we have our eyes on you, stay tuned.
