Motorola has had turbulent times recently but the Moto brand is still intact and every time they release a phone, it kindles the interests. But what had slowed them down are factors like the slow software updates and skewed pricing in terms of value for money especially in markets like India where pricing can really be a deal breaker. Motorola wants to amend their mistakes and Moto One Power seems to be a product in the right direction. While Motorola has been delivering near stock android UI added with their Moto experiences, with One Power they have opted for Google's Android One program for seamless updates. As for as pricing is concerned Rs 15,999 for Moto One Power seems an earnest attempt to regain the Indian market. Will this two be enough to win the faith or does the new Smartphone have more? Read our Motorola One Power review to find out.

The One Power looks solid but also has a heft. It weighs 205 grams and measures 8.4mm in thickness largely due to the big 5000mAh battery inside. It’s a compromise one has to make for the extra battery life. While the side frame is made of plastics the back panel is made of aluminium metal.
The rear houses the dual camera set up in a vertical housing with a dual-tone LED flash in between the two lenses, a fingerprint sensor with the famous Moto logo on the scanner area and Android One branding at the bottom. The plastic frame all around also avoids the antenna lines on the design.

The right side has power and volume buttons. Both the buttons are easy to access.

The left side houses the dual SIM tray with a dedicated microSD card slot. There is no dual-VoLTE support on this phone. Though the company says they are testing the support and might roll out the update later to enable it.

Display of One Power

It’s the year 2018 and the notorious notch makes an appearance in Moto phones with the One Power, like it or not there is no option either to hide the notch. The 6.2-inch LTPS IPS display features a fullHD+ resolution (1080 x 2246 pixels) stacking 403 pixels per inch on a 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The pixel density is quite impressive. After the Poco F1 fiasco, the tech community suddenly woke up to the Widevine’s L1 certification, the Moto One Power does have it and hence you can stream content in high definition from Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon Prime video.

The display offers good viewing angles and outdoor legibility is also decent enough. The display settings can be tweaked for colour temperature and you can choose between standard and vivid output. The brightness level goes up to 536 nits. Overall, the One Power offers a good display.

Moto One Power Android One Experience

The biggest shift the One Power sees is by embracing the Android One. Google certification mandates software security updates for three years and Android version updates for the next two iterations basically guaranteeing Android Pie and Q. This should bring cheers and some respect to the Moto fans and the One Power buyers. Well, that’s theoretical, the reality differs. The last security update I have received on the device was on August 1 and none since then. Hope Motorola addresses this swiftly and changes the perception.
There is no bloatware as expected on Android One phones and it runs on clean, vanilla stock Android Oreo. Though Motorola has managed to squeeze in few of their Moto experiences like twist to launch the camera, chop to turn on the flashlight and the always-on display. The interface is smooth, though I did find a bit of lag when too many apps were stacked on the background.

Performance of Moto One Power

In this segment, there are many phones powered by Snapdragon 636 like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and One Power joins the list. It combines the chipset with a 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Pitched against such mighty competition, the One Power has jumped straight into baptism by fire. The Snapdragon 636 is a workhorse for daily tasks and gaming, though the Snapdragon which has recently crept into this segment enjoys slightly better GPU. The chipset also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and latest Wi-Fi standards along with dual 4G and dual Standby.
Can I play PUBG? that’s the most frequent question I face when I talk about a new phone. Yes, you can but it plays on the low setting by default. I have seen other phones on the same chipset playing on mid-graphic setttings so this is a bit of a surprise. Though it does manages to play without much lags. Call quality is good. There is Dolby Audio and with its equalizers and presets. The sound quality is pretty good. FM radio is also found and the phone supports OTG. The fingerprint sensor is a bit slow to wake up but works well and there is no face unlock feature.

Motorola One Power Camera Review

Like every phone these days, the One Power also features a dual camera at the back. It has a 16MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture lens and a 5MP secondary camera for depth sensing with a f/2.2 aperture. For the selfies, there is a 12MP sensor with f/2.0 lens.
There is portrait mode for both front and back. The front also has a LED flash which can also be used as a torch. The camera app has a Google Lens mode. The rear camera supports video up to 4K but there is no Slo mo or time lapse features. The Expert mode lets you control white balance, exposure, ISO, shutter, and focus before clicking. You can take photos in different aspect ratio including wider 18.7:9 apart from the standard 4:3 and 16:9. The samples below are shot on 18.7:9 aspect ratio.
Day light pictures are good and has good detailing and color reproduction. The portrait mode is not very sharp and has a softness to it. Selfies come good for this segment. Overall the One Power has a decent camera though not the best in the segment.
[gallery link="file" columns="4" ids="14195,14196,14197,14198,14199,14200,14201"]

Battery Performance of Motorola One Power

The biggest highlight of the One Power is its massive 5000mAh battery and to sweeten the deal comes with a 15watts turbo charger. So you get practically a bigger battery, better battery life and a quick charging too. A 30 minutes charge upped the battery from 0% to 30% and 50% was acheived in 50 minutes and 75% in 90 minutes. As far as the battery life is concerned, it can run on a longer stretch. In my HD video loop test, it covered almost 16 hours which is pretty impressive. On a normal use, you can manage two days of battery life but real life scenario purely depends on how you put the phone to use but still expect it to do well compared to most of the competition and slighly better than the Max Pro M1 which also has the same 5000mAh battery.

Verdict:

Motorola has given its best shot at the Indian market with the Motorola One Power. They have also finally managed to price it sensibly for this segment. Plus, the shift to Android One might augur well too.
Its winning aces include:

the solid built,

5000mAh battery

Turbo charging

On a down side, the phone is slightly bulky and has more functional design than being attractive. It’s a trade off one has to make for a reliable, durable battery life on a phone. The One Power is not perfect in every sense but not everyone look for the perfect camera or gaming on a phone. Battery is crucial for many and the One Power races ahead of the rest when it comes to power.

Moto G series has been the foot soldier for Motorola, they bring in volumes and mass visibility by putting them in more user hands than their other premium X and flagship Z series phones. The G series phone have been fairly successful too for the company. Moto usually carries over the design aesthetics and some of the features from their high-end phones to the budget experience, with an extra stress on the design and build part. The latest addition to the G series the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play launched in India is no different from this philosophy, but Indian Smartphone industry is in a crazy state right now with no holds barred competition, aggressive pricing and soaring people's expectations. Can the new Moto G devices battle it out? let's find out in this Moto G6 review.

Moto G6 box contents

Out of the box you get:

User Manual

Sim Ejector Pin

Moto G6 Design – The Glass affair

Bidding goodbye to the plastic and metal dressing in the past G series Smartphones, Motorola has embraced glass instead on both sides with a polished metal frame for binding them together on the sides. The end product is premium shiny Smartphone with a curved 3D glass back which is easily one of the best dressed in its class. While at 8.3mm it is also one of the thickest phone, the curved smooth sides can trick you into thinking its not-so-thick. It weighs 163 grams.

What I liked about the Moto G6 design?

It has a USB – C port

It has a triple card tray for 2 SIM cards and an SD card

It has 3 mics around the body for voice, noise reduction and audio recording

The ergonomics of the Moto G6 gets it right and also the front and back has the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Being glass back, it is of course prone to fingerprint smudges. Like I always say about glass clad Smartphones, don’t forget to jacket it with a good case.

Motorola says the G6 is splash-proof, but since there is no official word on the IP ratings, I would suggest you to not get unnecessarily adventurous and be on safer side.

Moto G6 Display – catching up with the trend

It’s mid-2018 and every phones except the ultra budget Smartphones comes with ‘tall’ display featuring 18:9 aspect ratio, fancifully called full vision display. It would only be surprising if the Moto G6 steered away from it which it did not of course and features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display offering FHD+ resolution. The screen is decently bright with good viewing angles but not so bright for an easy viewing under strong sunlight. By default the screen is a little on the cool side, in case you find it a bit more blue on the hue, you can head to display settings to get it a bit tweaked to your taste. There is also night

Moto G6 Software and Moto Features

Vanilla android might impress the puritans of the tech world but many of the end customers I have interacted feel there is little less in their Smartphones powered by stock Android especially those who have used one of the custom UI’s many popular Smartphone brands offer. To balance things, Motorola offers a clean near Android (Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box) but with addons like Moto actions to enhance the experience.
There is a new addition to the Moto actions, Moto’s take on three finger screenshot which is more easier and fun now by just having to tap with three fingers. Its easy-peasy. Other notable Moto actions include:

One button navigation where you can perform gesture actions around fingerprint sensor to go home, back or accent recent menus.

Chop twice for flashlight

Twist action to launch camera

One-hand mode

Lift the phone to witch incoming calls to vibrate

Flip the phone facing down to enter DND mode

Also included are:

Night Display, the blue filter for night screen use to protect your eyes.

Attentive display , that keeps the screen on as long as you are looking at the display.

Moto voice

The UI is fast, agile and shows no sign of lag. It’s quiet snappy and performs well.

Moto G6 Performance

Indian Smartphone users are spoilt for choice right now and the price segment The Moto G6 comes has many notable competing models equipped with Snapdragon 600 series. So it was a surprise for me to see Motorola opted for the Snapdragon 450 instead. During the interaction with the team, they justified it saying the 450 is almost equal to the Snapdragon 625 sharing even the same 506 GPU, both are on par with a 14nm architecture. The difference though SD 625 can go up to 2.0GHz while SD 450 peaks at 1.8GHz. Specs wise, there is not much of a difference except a few more brownie points for SD 625. The basic usage scenario for the end user might not be very drastic, still it might ring a wrong way psychologically when comparing peer to peer. For a lay man, 600 is always a bigger deal than 400 right.
Ok so how it all boils down? With a clean and smooth software and neat set of optimisations, the G6 handles day-to-day use at ease. There is a bit of lag here and there, but not so much to put it down the pedestal. Thanks to the Adreno 506, the gaming capability is decent enough and can handle all the games, a keen eyes might point out to occasional frame drops and lags.
The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate, though it does not offer app lock. The phone also comes with face recognition but it is not the quickest or something I would rely upon with, since there was many false recognition. I very well live with the fingerprint sensor.
There is a Dolby audio app, where you can set up and customise sound profiles for different media. You can also create different profiles for film, music, game uses. The audio output is decent enough.

Moto G6 battery

The 3000mAh battery might look smaller but in real life use, the performance extracted out of it is impressive. Thanks to better battery optimization, the Moto G6 can sail through 1.5 days on moderate use and if you are a heavy user expect 18 hours to 22 hours of battery life. A 15 watts turbo charger is bundled with the box and it can power up the phone from 0 to 100% in around 1 hours 25 minutes.

Moto G6 camera

After Moto G5s Play, the Moto G6 is the second in the G series to offer dual camera setup. It features a 12MP camera with F/1.8 aperture combined with a 5MP for dept sensing. The rear camera can take videos up to 1080p in 60fps. For selfies there is a 16MP front facing camera with LED flash but the global variant outside APAC region has a 8MP front camera.
The camera features include:

Pro mode

Portrait mode

Selective black and white, where you can highlight the subject with color and the rest of the background in black and white.

Spot color, enables you to pick a particular color to be picked making the rest in black and whites.

Live actions – take a seconds of video before and after you capture an image.

Cutout, a feature that allows you to cutout a subject and place a different background

Text scanner

There is also quirky AR filters to add a bit of fun to your pictures.
The video mode includes – slo-mo, timelapse. There is also EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) for smooth video.
[gallery columns="4" link="file" ids="13617,13621,13620,13619,13618,13616,13615"]
The images are sharp with accurate color reproduction under good light conditions. At times, the camera struggles to lock the focus. Portrait mode edge detection needs some attention and is not perfect. he dynamic range is also slightly disappointing. Under low light, there is a bit of noise and one can expect a decent photos. The front camera performs decently well when lighting is favourable but struggles in low light. There is a tendency to overexpose shots in direct sunlight. Overall, the Moto G6 might not be the best in the segment in terms of camera abilities but it does not disappoint either.

Moto G6 Verdict

What works for G6

Premium design

Good build quality

Splash proof

15 watts turbo charger

Smooth UI and clean Android experience

EIS in video

What does not work for G6

While the SD 450 is equally good, it would be a hard sell against the SD 600 series options

Portrait mode could have been better

In a nutshell, if you are looking for a Moto experience and ready to shell a little more for the brand legacy, the Moto G6 would impress you. It may not be the best out there, but it can get about the stuff you would put it through.

Motorola has launched the Moto E4 Plus in India at Rs 9,999 and will be available exclusively on Flipkart. Here are the key features and specifications of the latest in the Motorola E series , in case you are planning to pick a Smartphone for you.

Big battery + Rapid charging

Equipped with a 5000mAh battery, E4 plus promises a great battery life. Plus, it also comes with 10watts Rapid charging feature. Ideally with a large battery under its hood and a 720p panel, it should last longer.

Dedicated microSD card

These days most Smartphones are unibody in design and have hybrid SIM slots which means at any time you can have 2 SIMs or sacrifice one SIM for microSD card if you want to expand your storage.
Moto E4 Plus has a removable back panel and it has two SIM slots and another dedicated microSD card which can accommodate up to 128GB.

Stock Android

While most OEMs go for their own flare in the Android experience with custom UI, Motorola has opted for stock android experience. While it lacks some of the extra features the custom UI offers, the stock experience should keep the Smartphone more snappier compared to t others with similar specs and running their own UI skin. The updates should also hit swifter with stock android. The Moto E4 Plus runs on the very latest Nougat 7.1.1 at the time of launch and it also has Google Assistant baked within.

Motorola took the wraps off their 4th generation Moto G today in India and they come as pairs and not surprisingly called Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.
The Moto G4 Plus will be available from midnight today and is an Amazon exclsuive, it comes in two variants with the 16GB variant priced at Rs 13,499, and 32GB variant at. Rs 14,499. Motorola says the Moto G4 would be available in the next month but without the finger print scanner, it will be a tough for the company to sell it. The Moto G4 Plus does include a FP scanner at the home button.
Both the phones share many common traits. Both the devices has a 5.5-inch display with a fullHD (1080x1920 pixels) resolution with a pixel density of 401ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, powering both the device are similar internals Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor (MSM8952) SoC coupled with an Adreno 405 GPU and both have 3000mAh battery with TurboPower support and runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0. Both the phones have similar dimension weighing in at 155 grams, and measures 153x76.6x9.8mm, with its thinnest point being 7.9mm thick.
Now coming to the differences, the G4 Plus gets finger print scanner positioned at its home button but this feature is sorely missing in the Moto G4. Lack of finger print sensor could be dampening for the G4 and with the feature becoming mainstream in even sub-10,000 models, its puts the G4 in a tight spot.
Also, the G4 Plus has a 16-megapixel rear camera while the G4 contents with a 13-megapixel shooter. Also, the G4 Plus supports up to 128GB via microSD card.
The camera of G4 Plus has host of additions likef/2.0 aperture, OmniVision sensor, dual-LED flash, laser auto-focus, and Phase Detection Auto-focus support(PDAF) . The camera also has features like Professional mode with manual controls, Auto HDR, and Panorama among others. At the front it holds a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with an 84-degree wide field of view and f/2.2.
Both the devices have dual-SIM support and also is VoLTE connectivity and will be available in black and white variants.

While the Moto 360 Sport got a $100 price cut in US yesterday and can be purchased for $200 now, it’s launched in India at Rs 19,999. In case you are confused between the Moto 360 and the Sport edition, we cover the differences between both the devices to help you choose the right one.

Bands

The Moto 360 is perfect work wear with a traditional watch design thanks to the choice of metal and leather straps. The Moto 360 Sport as the name implies is aimed at the fitness freaks and flaunts a sportier look, the watch is strapped in a silicone strap.

Band replacement

The Moto 360 bands are replaceable which means in case of wear and tear you can simply change the straps and keep using the watch. You can also shuffle the look of the watch by changing the bands.
Sadly this is not the case with the Moto 360 Sport. While Motorola might like to assure the silicone strap might not snap but in case of any wear and tear it is non-replaceable and you might end up looking at buying a new Smartwatch. Ouch!

Size

Moto 360 ships in two different sizes. The bigger (46 mm) model and smaller (42 mm) while the Moto 360 Sport has only the 42 mm standard unisex model.

Display

The Moto 360 uses a IPS LCD display while the Moto 360 Sports features a hybrid display what the company calls as “AnyLight Hybrid Display” which works as normal LCD indoors and at outdoors uses ambient light to illuminate itself offering a better sunlight readability.

GPS

The Moto 360 Sports has a built-in GPS which means when you are running / jogging or hiking it is not at the mercy of the phone’s GPS and can do location tracking and route mapping on its own. So you can keep the phone at home and peacefully do your fitness activities, which is not possible with the Moto 360.
So which one would you choose? Let us know.

Back in December last year, Motorola launched the Moto 360 in India at price starting at Rs 19,999 and available in leather and metal variants. Four months down the lane, they have launched the Moto 360 Sport and surprisingly this model is also priced at Rs 19,999.
Key differences between Moto 360 and Moto 360 Sports. The sport version features a rubber body with silicone straps. It also includes a built-in GPS to track the distance you ran as well as the route and thus you can shun your phone and use it for location tracking while running / jogging or other activities. Plus on the display side, it has what Motorola calls “AnyLight Hybrid Display” which works as normal LCD indoors and outdoors uses ambient light to illuminate itself.
Aimed at athletes and fitness enthusiasts, the Moto 360 Sport is water and dust resistant with IP67 certification. The company says the watch includes side ventilation channels that help one stay cool. Apart from built-in GPS, other sensors include gyroscope, accelerometer, altimeter and also features a heart-rate sensor to monitor physical exertion.
The Moto 360 has a 1.37-inch display with 360 x 325 pixels resolution stacking 263 pixels per inch. The display is strengthened by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The internals are powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 512MB of RAM. There is a 4GB of internal storage and a 300mAh battery that Motorola claims offers a good full day. The Moto 360 Sport supports wireless charging with connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 4.0 LE.
On the software side, it runs on Android Wear and is compatible with devices running on Android 4.3 or higher and iOs 8.2 or higher.
It’s interesting to note that the Moto 360 Sports got a US$ 100 cut in price in US just yesterday making it available at US$ 200 (Rs 13.280)
