Mercury today added yet another tablet to it’s mTab series, mTab 7G in a slim form factor. The new model is 3G enabled and comes with SIM calling feature.

What might damper the interest on the tablet for many is the choice of Android version. With the latest Jelly Bean increasingly finding way even in low-cost tablets, mTab7G runs on Ice Cream Sandwich, which has melted long back in Android plate, giving way to the Jelly Bean.

The 7 inch tablet with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution is powered by 1.2GHz Cortex A8 and 512 MB RAM. Other specs include 4 GB internal storage expandable via microSD card upto 32 GB, 2 MP rear camera and VGA front camera and 2400 mAh battery. The tablet offers a full HD video play back as well.
1 Sim Slot, 1 Mini USB ports. TF Card Slot, 3.5mm Stereo port, DC Jack adds up for I/O ports while the connectivity options include Support 2G/3G SIM Calling, Wireless WiFi, Support IEEE 802.11b/g/n.
As a deal sweetener, Mercury offers a tablet case cover with keyboard worth Rs. 899 free.
Mercury mTab 7G is priced at Rs. 7,799 ( $ 141)

Tablet market is exploding and there is a tablet for every price range but the bigger brands have shied away from sub 10K price range. Now Acer has taken the battle right into the crowded low-cost tablet ring and giving warning bells to the likes of Micromax and Karbonn and host of other smaller brands.
As reported earlier Asus launched its Iconia B1 tablet with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) for a sugary price of Rs. 7,999.

Unveiled last week at CES, Acer Iconia B1 has a 7-inch display with 1024×600 resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek processor (MTK 8317T). The 512MB RAM might not be impressive number and it comes with a 8GB internal storage, with an microSD card expandable upto 32 GB. Connectivity options on the Acer Iconia B1 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and Micro-USB. Also nested is a 0.3-megapixel front VGA camera for video calls.
Though the specs might not be a powerhouse, for a price point of Rs.7,999 and a tablet running on Android Jelly Bean OS and flashing a big brand sticker, its quiet a good deal.

This is going to be an irresistible rumour for Indians, and pray it comes true. We know that Acer is working on a 99$ tablet to rollout in 2013. With the world's increasing appetite for tablets and many small companies rolling out low-cost tablets to feed the growing market. A budget-friendly affordable tablet from a big player like Acer would be a game changer.

News channel, NDTV claims it got some source information that Acer’s low cost tablet, Iconia B1 would hit the Indian shores in the end of January and hold your breathe for the price of Rs. 7,999. If the source is true, this is a much better pricing than the Nexus 7 pricing for India that was released here a month ago.
If we are looking at a January end launch in India, Acer should be unveiling the product in CES event in Las Vegas next week. We will keep you updated on the developments.
Though there is no official words on the specs of the tablets. It is touted to be a 7″ screen with 1024×600 resolution and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor alongside 512MB RAM. In all probability, the tablet would be running on Jellybean Android OS. It is also rumoured to get a 8 GB internal memory with an expandable memory slot. Though, its all rumours, we will keep you updated as official news comes in.
