This was one of the worst kept secrets and almost everything about the phone was already leaked yet there has to be an official announcement and today the struggling Taiwanese company announced HTC One M8, their flagship device for the year. The follow up to what was undoubtedly the most beautiful phone of the last year, HTC One comes with the same brilliant casing and with double the hardware firepower and enhanced UI.
The 5-inch display is housed in a beautiful metallic casing, HTC says it has put in more metal in the new device compared to the last year's model. The 5-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels, 441ppi) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protectio is slightly bigger than the 4.7-inch display of the original One and firing it is a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 Qualcomm processor and 2GB RAM that could handle with ease any beast of an apps in the Android world. The device run on Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box and comes with 16GB or 32GB internal storage and if you find that not enough, the device also includes microSD support for up to 128GB. Even more space hungry? There is also 50GB of free Google Drive space included.
Last year when most companies were pushing ahead the pixel race for the camera specs, HTC came up with a 4-megapixel ‘UltraPixel’ setup and this year along side the 4-megapixel camera it also has included a second camera in the rear. The second camera in the Dua Camera setup actually acts like a sensor to capture the depth information. What it does? In aids in post-production of image to give bokeh effect, blurred background and faux 3D style output. There is also a 5 megapixel front camera with a wide angle lens with a f2.0 apperture.
HTC One (M8) comes with front-facing dual stereo speakers and amplifier. HTC claims the new speakers offer 25% better sound than the ones on the phone's predecessor. Battery sees a slight bump from 2,300mAh to 2,600mAh. There are also new gesture controls to quick access time, blinkfeed and widgets without having to wake up the screen first. The camera can also be quick launched using the volume keys. On the software side, as mentioned earlier the device tastes the latest Android KitKat, laced with the company's new Sense UI 6.0
HTC tries to stay abreast for the new flagship cycle with updates to the hardware specs and enhancing the UI and adding more tweaks to its camera department.
