Not everyone are comfortable with touchscreen typing. Even though touchscreen are the present and future, there are still many like my wife who would love typing on the good old physical QWERTY keypad. It gets challenging when you like Android ecosystem but still would prefer the convenience of QWERTY, you don’t come across many a device now. Samsung Galaxy Chat B5330 is a modest answer to your QWERTY+Android needs.
Galaxy Ch@t B5440 is surprisingly is a very good looking phone and has a solid build quality. The white color device is especially is a visual delight. It soaks well in one’s palms and does not at all feel fragile.
Like the rest of the Galaxy siblings, the chat is made of plastic though the nature of material never comes in the way it looks and feels. The volume rocker and power buttons are placed aptly, true to the Galaxy series. In short, the form factor scores high for Galaxy Chat, its palm-compact with a sense of premium inspite of it being an entry-level device.

What hampers the goodness of the device though is the low resolution. Samsung Galaxy Chat features a 3-inch screen but the biggest let down is its 240×320 pixels resolution with a paltry 133 ppi. So naturally, display is not something to cheer about and neither it gives a vivid, sharp pictures nor makes browsing a pleasurable experience. Images get pixelated and viewing angles are not commendable either. But hold on! Its a entry-level smartphone so there are compromises to be made to maintain the price level, so we better be realistic.
Galaxy Chat Interface and Functionality
Galaxy Chat comes pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich layered with latest version of TouchWiz UI. In addition to its proprietory TouchWiz UI, Samsung has also included Nature UX, Yes, you heard it right, the same one Samsung uses in Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2. Though due to the small screen and less processing power of Galaxy Chat, there are few tweaks and optimization done to suit the device. In short, Galaxy Chat has a very good user interface. In addition to the physical QWERTY keypad, you can also use the touch keypad on screen for messaging. It is bit difficult though considering the 3″ screen size. Though If someone is buying this phone, it is purely for the physical keypad and so I wonder why would they be still interested in using the touchpad. Though, the option is still there.- Good build quality
- Physical QWERTY keypad is very good.
- Great form factor
- Poor resolution
- 2 MP camera is too basic
