Design and build quality

Almost all the phones these days opt for unibody design but Intex is one of the very few OEMs who bucks the trend and still makes Smartphones with removable back panel. The Elyt Dual is not the slimmest phone in today’s standard and measures 9.1mm but has the advantage of removable back panel many still look forward to. The weight distribution is good that you don’t really feel it bulky on hand when you hold it. The back side has the 8MP rear camera, LED flash, Intex branding and Speaker grille. Just for the visuals, they have an antenna lines marked though being a removable back cover it doesn’t have any real use. The sides are smooth and easy to hold. The bottom has a mic, microUSB port, audio jack. The right side has power button and volume button. When you pop open the back panel, you see the removable 2400mAh battery, dual SIM slot and a dedicated memory card. The phone supports 4G VoLTE The front has dual camera at the front with one 8-megapixel and another 2MP. The top also has the earpiece grille and sensors. The bottom has the capacitive buttons and they are not backlit. Over all, while there is nothing drastic in the Elyt Dual Smartphone, it sticks to basics and a workhorse design.

    Display

Elyt Dual has a 5-inch IPS display offering a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. The display is decently well for the price segment. The panel has a 2.5D curved glass. The display has a good color reproduction and offers fairly good viewing angles. It is also good under sunlight, though a bit reflective. While the display settings offer an ambient light option, it is tad slow to adapt to the ambient light condition when you move in and out of various light scenes.

    Performance

Make no mistakes, Elyt Dual is unabashedly an entry level phone. Its powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor & 32-bit Quad Core Spreadtrum 9850 chipset combined with a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Around 12GB is user available. It’s good to see many low-cost OEMs opting for stock android instead of messing up with a UI of their own. Elyt Dual too opts for stock UI with few gesture actions thrown in. Coming to performance, let’s be realistic. The Elyt Dual is a decent phone for your basic tasks and for social use of apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter etc. Call quality is good. You can play lighter games but don’t expect it to excel on heavy graphic intensive games and clearly this phone is not intended for those use either. Its a daily driver for basic tasks. Elyt Dual has a 2400mAh removable battery as I mentioned earlier. With a 5-inch HD display and a modest basic processor, which is not power hungry the battery could manage through a decent life and a day through is possible with this Smartphone.

    Camera

Now let;s move to the camera department. The phone ticks the dual camera criteria but is that good enough? The dual camera here is at the front and let’s begin with that. To its credit, Elyt Dual is the most affordable smartphone right now in the Indian market with a dual camera. The camera also offers the bokeh feature which many users look at these days with dual camera setup. It comes as a surprise that the bokeh algorithm is managed fairly well in Elyt Dual. The background blur is natural and smoother. One can also changed the depth of field after taking a snap. Having said this, being a basic camera setup , the low light selfies are not very impressive as expected in entry level smartphones. Moving to the rear camera, it under performs when compared to the front camera. For an entry level Smartphone, Elyt Dual is pretty decent. Further, there is a proprietary Spy Cam software integration to let you capture images discreetly and saving them directly in the gallery. A Dermabrasion feature is also available that is claimed to remove uneven lines scars and acne from the images captured through the available hardware. https://youtu.be/KoKj4zb9qGA

    Verdict

Elyt Dual takes to its credit as the most affordable Smartphone with a dual camera and that would me the main selling point of the mobile in the catchment areas of Intex. Yes, it faces stiff competition especially with a juggernaut like Xiaomi which is smashing roll but luckily India is a big market and Intex still commands its own few segments where the dual camera at an affordable price point would sell. What works for Elyt Dual is the dual camera setup, removable battery and stock UI and for those looking for a basic entry level Smartphone with a fancy dual camera setup this would entice them but for basic tasks. ]]>
