In 2015, the government of India launched the Digital India initiative with a vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society. With this, the aim was to empower every citizen and enable businesses to transact easily and efficiently in today’s digital-driven economic landscape. Corporate India was quick to respond to the call of digitization by adopting various digital transformation initiatives to streamline the business processes. Today, organizations have witnessed efficiency and increased productivity with the automation of time-consuming manual processes.
Though, organizations have traveled the road of digitization and automated business processes that previously were manual, they still push the paper document around in an obsolete and inefficient manner. Paper documents not only are difficult to store and carry the risk of perishability but are also time-consuming when handled for data stored in them. With huge amount of data being handled in the form of paper documents, it has become imperative for organizations to improve and optimize their document handling processes through automation.

Business Can Be Simple

Canon, a global brand, which has been ranked as the leading brand for copiers in Asia for 2018 as well as has No 1 Market Share in India for H1 2019 as per IDC data, follows the motto of ‘Business can be simple’. The philosophy behind the motto aims at reducing complexity by simplifying workflows within an organization through digitization of paper-based processes. By leveraging Canon’s diverse range of hardware and software solutions that includes a wide portfolio of digital copiers, scanners, projectors and print and document solutions, businesses can save time and resources that otherwise would have been spent towards filing, indexing and storing the documents.
Aside from scanning documents, a document management solution also incorporates a suite of applications that facilitates creation, indexing and storing of digitized documents. Such a comprehensive office automation solution helps speed up the workflow, improve efficiency, eliminate human-error and enhance corporate data security.

The importance of data security

Data security is a prime concern for organizations, and with data being manually handled through piles of paper documents, there is always a looming threat of data and privacy theft/leakage. Canon with its imageRunner series of multi-functional devices provide additional features of preventive measures that empower businesses to address security vulnerabilities. Besides scanning, copying and printing, the imageRunner series of products offer additional security features and low cost of ownership, which helps organizations reduce operational costs and bring in process efficiencies.

Integrated product portfolio for business needs

Apart from hardware solutions, Canon also offers software solutions that include IrisPowerscan, a powerful document management solution. The solution can scan, structure, sort, index, OCR, convert and export all digitized paper documents into fully searchable text files. With IrisPowerscan, an organization can save time, improve efficiency and optimize business processes.
With Canon’s Therefore Document Management solution, organizations can efficiently and economically handle paper documents. By leveraging a combination of Canon imageRunner products, IrisPowerScan and Therefore Document Management solutions, data-driven companies can quickly import and integrate, share and compare, store and retrieve, or distribute and print documents of any scale and volumes with minimal human intervention. Thus, helping employees save time from tedious manual processes and focus towards business-oriented goals.
Digital India is propelling the new-age India and businesses, entrepreneurial aspirations are on rise and start-ups are data driven and innovative. Canon with its motto of ‘Business can be simple’, is helping organizations to optimize resources, manage business efficiently and become agile to meet the dynamic customer needs.]]>

With your resource material, you can come up with a solution for this year’s theme – natural disaster preparedness, and recovery. This is where the IBM Call of Coder starter kits come handy for many participants by using Code Patterns and kits for your submissions. Next, you get a chance to introduce yourselves to peers and experts, brainstorm ideas, collaborate with a team. The final stage would be to submit your solutions.

Last year winner – Project OWL

Project Owl teammates—developers Charlie Evans, Taraqur Rahman, Nick Feuer, Bryan Knouse, and Magus Pereira – won IBM’s first-ever Call for Code contest. Last year more than 100,000 developers from 156 countries participated in the contest. The panel of judges included former President Bill Clinton who selected Project OWL in the grand finale. The five top teams had brought to table solutions ranging from AI to post-earthquake rebuilding process to aiding firefighters by providing live data during wildfires via sensors. Project OWL created an offline communication infrastructure for natural disasters, giving those in need a simple and reliable interface to request assistance from authorities.
IBM’s Call for Code challenge helps many individual developers to come up with practical workable solutions for their ideas, find a like-minded team and make changes to the society with meaningful technology solutions.

Asus has a solid reputation for gaming laptops in their ROG lineup. Within the Republic of Gamers series, there are many sub-series including the Strix and Zephyrus. Between them, the Zephyrus offers slim yet powerful gaming laptops. They are designed for people who want a powerful work and play laptop on the go and yet have a relatively less weight and dimensions.

The Taiwanese company has refreshed the ROG Zephyrus gaming laptops with new machines featuring 9-th Gen Intel CPUs, Turing-based Nvidia Graphics, RTX 20 series GPU, Pantone validated display. What I have today is the Zephyrus M GU502, which offers a potent mix of power and practicality for folks like me who want a work machine that seriously plays well, after all, who doesn’t want to fire the gaming adrenalin after a good day’s work.

Box contents:

Out of the box you get the,

GU502

Power adapter

Cable

Few documents

Zephyrus range gets a good treatment in terms of build quality and the GU502 follows the tradition. It’s encased in a metal chassis with a combination of magnesium, aluminium and plastic materials giving it a compact and lighter profile. It weighs 1.9Kg, measures 18.9mm in thickness and the moment I took it out of the box and unwrapped the plastic sheet, the build quality was reassuring. The finish is one of the better you can find in the market. The top lid gets the typical Asus matte brushed finish with their backlit ROG Logo glowing red when the machine is on. The design language, in general, is in sync with the Zephyrus lineup.
An interesting addition to the GU502 is type C 3.1 Gen 2 with display port and PD charging support. Yes, the laptop can be powered by a power bank. It has an input rating of 20V/3A and 9V/2A output. Apart from this, there are in total 3 USB ports (two on the right and one at the left), one HDMI port and an RJ45 ethernet port. A Kingston lock, 2 audio jack one for headphone and another for mic completes the bells and whistles.

There’s still no card-reader and no Thunderbolt 3. The power plus is placed in the middle of the left side, which I find a bit awkward.

The Zephyrus M GU502 is well-spaced and promises a good experience, let me admit it’s early days for me and will talk about that more on the full review. It has a dedicated multimedia keys and an extra row of function keys at the right. The keys gets RGB illumination with Aura sync. Asus’s packs an Armoury Crate app for full control over the machine, you can do a lot there including creating different profiles. There is a fairly large trackpad but there is no fingerprint sensor for login. More on that in full review.

The GU502 has a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920×1080) IPS-level panel. The display offers 144Hz refresh rate with 3ms response time and the colours are Pantone validated. So apart from gaming, if you are a content creator, the display would be apt for photo editing or video editing offering good colour accuracy. The bezels are relatively narrow for a gaming machine.

Western Digital is a name synonymous with storage solutions offering a bouquet of data storage technology and products. Today the company expanded their solid state drives product lineup in India by bringing in the high-performance, super-fast, cutting edge WD Black SN750 NVMe SSD targeted at the hardcore gaming tribe. Alongside, they have also introduced the WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSD for high performance seeking mainstream users.
What is NVMe SSD?
SATA SSD is passé and NVMe is what you should be looking at if you want a blazing fast PC experience. It provides faster access and consumes less power.
NVM Express, also known as NVMe, is an interface specification optimized for NAND flash and next-generation solid-state storage technologies. The Express denotes the fact that the data travels over the PCI Express (PCIe) interface on your computer’s motherboard.

Key Features of WD Black SN750 NVMe SSD

The WD Black SN750 NVMe is built on Western Digital’s 3D NAND technology and also comes with integrated aluminium heatsink to help maintain speed and optimum temperature, eventually keeping the drive below the thermal throttling point regardless of the workload. The new-age SSDs are targeted at gamers and for users who work on high demanding tasks like video editing.
The WD SN750 is available in different capacities starting at 250GB and going up to 2TB. The heatsink model is available only on 500GB and above drives. The sequential read rate goes up to a whopping 3,400 MB/s and sequential writes up to 2,900 MB/s.

Huawei announced its top of the line flagship system-on-chip (SoC), the Kirin 980 recently at the IFA 2018 in Berlin. The new chip is the successor to the Kirin 970 which is under the hood of all the Huawei / Honor flagship products currently selling in the market. The new chipset also boasts of being the world’s fist 7nm processor and comes with dual NPU. Here is everything you need to know about the Kirin 980 chipset and what new performance, power and AI capabilities it brings across the table.

Huawei Kirin 980 chip: The new Architecture stack

The new Kirin 980 also is the first chipset to embed ARM’s new Cortex-A76 cores. The new core architecture is built on ARM’s DynamiQ technology and is reported to be 75 per cent more powerful and 58 per cent more efficient compared to its predecessor. The Kirin 980 follows an eight-core architecture with a two Cortex-A76 2.6GHz “higher-performance cores” for heavy demanding tasks and two Cortex-A76 1.92GHz “middle cores” for day-to-day tasks and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 “efficiency cores” for lighter ‘workload.’ Huawei talks about “Flex-scheduling” technology to allocate the “right cores to the right tasks.”

Huawei Kirin 980 chip: Power, Speed and Efficiency

The current chipsets like Huawei’s Kirin 970 or Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 are fabricated on 10nm architecture. The Kirin 980 is t he world’s first to be built on 7nm process manufactured by TSMC. What it means is the new process could pack in more transistors than the previous generation. Huawei claims that the Kirin 980 has 6.9 billion transistors in less than 1 square area centimetre which is an increase of 1.6 times compared to the 10nm manufacturing process used on Kirin 970. With more transistors at its disposal, the new chipset has more computation power and delivers better performance. Huawei states that the new 7nm fabrication will deliver a 20 per cent increase in SoC performance and power efficiency by 40 per cent. Huawei claims that the Kirin 980 will consume 33 per cent less power as compared to Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC. As for the memory, the Kirin 980 has support for 2133MHz RAM and the chipset is said to have 20 per cent better bandwidth and 22 per cent lower latency.

Huawei Kirin 980 chip: GPU

The new SoC has a new graphics card, Mali-G76. The new GPU is claimed to provide 30 per cent more efficiency and performance density as compared to the previous generation. Huawei claims that the graphics chip integrated into the Kirin 980 SoC will deliver 46 per cent better graphics processing and 178 per cent improved power efficiency that Kirin 970’s Mali-G72 GPU.

Huawei Kirin 980: Camera, ISP

There is a new dual ISP (image signal processor) added to the chipset, which the Huawei claims to be 46 per cent faster at camera processing and 23 per cent more efficient than its predecessor. Huawei says that it will translate to “better contrast” and “finer details”, thanks to the new high dynamic range (HDR) colour reproduction technology and a ‘multi-pass noise reduced’ algorithm.

Huawei Kirin 980 chip: AI

Huawei is the first company to bring AI into the mobile mainstream last year and since then every mobile OEMs talk about AI in their Smartphone these days. The Kirin 970 had its own Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and the latest Kirin 980 has dual NPU for more AI processing. The NPU with its machine learning and AI can recognize more scenes and objects on the phone now than the Kirin 970. With the dual NPU onboard, the Kirin 980 could recognize up to 4,500 images per minutes compared to the 2,371 images Snapdragon 845 could muster or the 1,458 images the A11 Bionic chip could recognize.

Huawei Kirin 980 chip: World’s Fastest WiFi modem on the phone

Huawei has always taken a lead on the modem technology with a robust R&D in that domain. The HiSilicon Kirin 980 is the fist chipset with a modem to support Cat. 21 LTE that supports downlink speed at 1.4Gbps. It will support a theoretical peak download speed of 1.7Gbps and 160MHz bandwidth. Also, the GPS receiver gets support by L1 + L5 dual frequency to deliver accurate target location while navigating in “complex terrains.”

Hearing loss is defined as being partially or completely unable to hear sound in one or both ears. 5% of the world's population or 466 million people have some degree of hearing loss. Additionally, a study states 1.1 billion young people are at risk of hearing loss due to unsafe listening practices.

Impact of hearing loss

Hearing loss has multitude of impact both for the individual as well as society. On a personal level, hearing loss leads to:

Emotional instability

Staying reclusive and avoiding social gatherings

Loneliness

Risk to personal safety

Difficulty in learning new tasks / skills

Impact on job performance and earning potential

It is also estimated unaddressed hearing loss poses a high cost for the economy globally amounting to $750 billion.

Cochlear Implants

So it’s imperative that effective recourse is done to address the hearing loss. Cochlear founded in 1981 is the world’s largest manufacturer of hearing implants for hearing loss. Nucleus, developed by Dr. Graeme Clark in Melbourne during the 1970s is the crucial device that capture and process the sound in order to pass the cleanest signal to the implant.
Few days back, I had an opportunity to interact with their team in India, who showcased the progress they have made in the implant research. From the first generation of their device to the latest Nucleus 7 which is the most sophisticated as well as offers host of convenient features.

While there is vast advancement in the hearing loss treatment, what is more important is to make sure the awareness is spread to the patients, family, society and government to let them know hearing loss can be tackled and progressive steps are taken right from the screening of children during birth. Brett Lee, the Australian cricketer is the Cochlear’s global ambassador for hearing loss. He champions the “Sounds of Cricket” initiative to spread awareness about the significant functional, social, emotional and economic impact of hearing loss on individuals and their families. He has been actively involved with Cochlear in India since 2015 and visiting small towns and cities to bring about the awareness at various levels of society including the government.

Pyrsm is an interesting company they make work collaborations convenient, comfortable and more practical with their cutting edge display and visual solutions. Two year ago, I had interacted with them where they showcased their 85’’ and 98’’ LCD displays for India. Now, they are bringing in their 6K LPD interactive display to Indian market. So what is LDP display? What are the new features of the 6K LPD interactive display from Prysm? let's find out.
LPD is acronym for Laser Phosphor Display. An advanced optical subsystem directs the light from an array of ultraviolet lasers onto a screen made of a plastic-glass hybrid material coated with color phosphor stripes. The lasers scan the screen line by line, from top to bottom. The energy from the lasers’ light activates the phosphors, which emit photons, producing a brilliant image.

Key Features of Prysm 6K LPD display

Unlike the previous generation of the interactive display which had tiles of displays stiched together, the large format 6K LPD display based on Prysm’s own patented display technology offers interactive, large format single panel display with seamless and immersive visual experience. No more tiled display at work.
