Pubg Mobile Club Open 2019, we talked about the tournament and the India region semi final lineup and the upcoming finals that would be held at Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi on the 14^th and 15^th of June. Leading Smartphone brand, Vivo is the official title sponsor of the PMCO 2019. The PMCO 2019 is divided into Spring Split and Fall Split, each with separate prize pool totalling $2.5 million USD. The Spring Split Global Finals will take place in Berlin this July which will feature teams from India based on the Regional Finals in Delhi. To add extra charm and glamour to the competion, PUBG MOBILE has put together a star cast of presenters this time around both for the English and the vernacular stream. Returning to the centerstage, Abish Mathew will once again be entrusted with duties of the ringmaster. English Commentators:

To begin with, we have esports legend Jason Kaplan. Known for his YouTube web shows “Ult in Ten” and “Rift Myths”, Jason began his casting career back in the day, casting for Counter Strike: Source. Starting of by playing League of Legends and he eventually moved to a career of casting League of Legends tournaments in January of 2012. Later on, he was offered a position by ESL to become a main caster for them.

Adding some local flavour, Sudhen “Bleh” Wahengbam, a well-known Counter-Strike: Global Offensive commentator and analyst, will also be part of this epic ensemble. Known best for his post game analysis, this e-sports pundit is a household name in the online gaming space in India. He’s one of the few important figures who have been vocal about working towards the development of the esports ecosystem in India.

All the way from North London and the youngest of the lot, Alex “Snodz” Byfield is all set to join the panel. Former TeamEndpoint, Alex made his name as an AWPer on many occaisions playing for the clan, most notable being their ESEA Season 24: Premier. In the past he has commented for and has worked with ESL, Gfinity and PGLesports.

Last but not least, Overwatch UK broadcast stalwart John Allen completes the panel. John started off in the UK University scene in 2014 casting for King of the North and the National University Esports League (NUEL), covering League of Legends and CS:GO. He has progressed since then to cover both National and International tournaments in multiple titles.

Hindi Commentators:

Right off the bat, PUBG MOBILE brought on board Vageesh Bhan, who is a renowned Voice Talent and Content Creator. Starting off at Radio One, he used to host the weekend show while also producing the evening drive-time show. His most recent gig was as Lead Talent and Director of Video Production for ESL India/Nodwin Gaming. Fun fact, he has appeared in the popular music video called “Oopar Oopar Renn De” and a commercial for Ponds Men India.

Ketan K18 is an upcoming gamer/streamer. Based in Delhi, Ketan Patel is most notable for his PUBG MOBILE streams. He is part of the new wave of PUBG MOBILE-fueled streamers who have taken India’s streaming game to another level. In the past he has been part of various PUBG MOBILE teams, notably his former team is also playing in the regional finals.

23-year-old Mannu Karki, is a household name in the esports ecosystem in India, having been part off and/or commented for top CS: GO and DOTA 2 tournaments in the country. Krat is part of the Nodwin line up, primarily associated with ESL India Premiership.

Dharam Kundra, popularly known by his gaming moniker ‘King Charlie’, made his mark as a caster for the Rage Quit Cup. Starting in 2014, his deep knowledge of DOTA made his want to try his hand at becoming a caster. Over the years, he’s been part of several MMORPG tournaments, such as – Join DOTA League Season 1, 2 and 3(casted the semis and finals as well for s2 and 3), Starladder s4 and 5, Amateur DOTA League Season, Cevo Season Cup etc.

PUBG MOBILE Campus Championship 2018, Tencent Games , the game developer of PUBG mobile is hosting the PUBG MOBILE India Series 2019 With a prize pool of Rs 1 Crore the tournament invites people to battle it out to earn the now famous “winner winner chicken dinner”. The first edition of the competion was limited to college and university students but the new tournament is open to all, technically there is qualification though. You need to be at Level 20 to be able to qualify for the tournament which any PUBG fan worth its salt would have already crossed. The registrations have already began which will go on till January 23.

How to register in PUBG Mobile India Series 2019?

To register, you need to visit the PUBG Mobile India Series 2019 registration page, where you can sign up.
Once registered, you can either join a squad by entering the Squad ID or create a squad of their own and invite your friends.

How does the tournament played?

There are two qualifying rounds. All of the games are held in Asia server region in third-person mode. The first online in-game qualifier round will be held between January 21 and 27 where all the registered players need to play 15 classic rounds with their squad members in Erangel. The 10 best rounds will be considered for the players to qualify for the next round which will be based on a number of factors including kill count, rank, survival time, accuracy, team play, and more. The second qualifiers called the ‘Online Playoffs’ is scheduled between February 10 and February 24. The first round of the playoffs will be held between February 10 to 15, where the top 2000 squads will be divided into 100 groups with 20 squads each. The groups go head to head with each other in a knockout fashion, and the top 4 squads from every group then head to the next round. The second round of the playoffs is scheduled between February 16 and 19 where the top 400 squads from the first round will be divided into 20 slots with 20 squads in each of the slots. They will go on and compete with other with the top four squads moving onto the third round. The third round (February 21 to 24) will feature 80 squads divided into four groups of 20 squads where the top five squads will go on to the grand finale. HDFC bank launches Humanoid Robot Assistant IRA 2.0 and Virtual Banking Assistants EVA

IRA 2.0 Humanoid Robot IRA is the first of its kind implementation in the banking industry in India, introducing a humanoid for customer service. The technology has been developed by HDFC Bank in collaboration with its technology partners Invento Makerspaces and Senseforth Technologies. The first version of the IRA was launched in January 2017 at the Bank’s Kamala mills branch in Mumbai and is now currently stationed at the Palarivattom branch in Kochi. HDFC bank is actively pursuing to better the Humanoid experience and the IRA 2.0 is the next progression level with few more advance skills added to it. By mapping the branch layout, customers can not only ask certain banking queries to the humanoid but IRA 2.0 can also walk them to the designated counters. The future road map for IRA includes communicating in-depth the banking products, suggestions, give information about bank accounts, handle service requests and provide the status of applications or requests.

Warning: Alexa can spoil you but in a fun way and once you are into it, there is no going back. I grew up on diet of Star Trek and the likes, so naturally devices responding to voice command had always fascinated me since then. Then came the Assistant, Siri and Bixby of the Smartphone world and people got the glimpse of the future forward. Voice is going to shape up the future and control the gadgets around you and is so much of fun and convenient at the same time. ( as a side effect, it can make you lazy too!)

What is Alexa?

Story goes that the name Alexa was chosen to evoke the legendary Library of Alexandria from ancient Egypt. It also gives a more human sounding name to the AI at work. So that’s Alexa the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology developed by Amazon which is now working on the Echo devices and many other devices from other manufacturers who have implemented Amazon’s voice-activated virtual assistant on their products. In this article though, we will keep our purview restricted to Amazon’s own Echo lineup of devices, one of which I been using for a while now. Alexa lets you speak your wishes to an Echo smart speaker (or other Alexa-powered devices) and see the command executed be like stuff like playing your music, dimming the lights, turning on the TV to even booking a cab for you.

How does Alexa work?

Alexa is developed on natural-language processing system and you can talk naturally with it and make it respond to you and do things it is capable of. For an example, when you are listening to a music you can either say Alexa stop, Alexa shut up or Alexa enough and it understands that. You don’t have to memorize specfic commands to communicate with it. Alexa is always listening and is quick to respond. To get this all started of course you need an Echo device, Amazon Prime membership (In India, when you buy an Echo device you also get a complimentary one year of Prime membership free) and WiFi. It’s all in the cloud. Once you are done with the initial setup, you are ready to engage with Alexa. Alexa doesn’t discriminate all it needs is a name-call , you can choose to call it Alexa or Amazon or Echo for it to respond. Once you ask say “How is the weather in Bangalore today” , the always active mics of the device picks the query, instantly send it to the Amazon cloud and answers you , in case you ask something it cannot comprehend, it says a polite sorry.

Why should you get Alexa Echo devices?

If you ask an one-liner – it is so much of fun. My son and me are having fun time playing out tracks alternatively on the Echo and having awesome father-son bonding time. But there is more to it why you should get interested with Echo. Echo is a speaker at the heart (with an odd exception being the Echo dot, will talk about that in a while). I am an audiophile as well as a tech enthusiast , I have piled up quiet a many bluetooth speakers and few of them are to be honest a better speaker than the Echo, but still these days I spend more time listening on Echo for the simple reason it is simply convenient to speak to Alexa to play my song as I enter my home than turning on the Speaker and searching for the song on my playlist. Alexa listens and plays for me. This sets it apart from other audio devices I own now. Plus, I could also ask Alexa to run through the news, dictate a recipe when am in a mood to stir something in kitchen and can also ask some random general knowledge question at it. If you are like me, who like to welcome future to your home, Alexa echo should interest you.

Amazon Echo – The Devices

In India, Amazon sells now three devices – the Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Plus. There is the Amazon Show and Spot with screens, which are yet to be launched in India. All Amazon Alexa devices offer essentially the same Alexa functions but they differ in few ways. If you own an awesome bluetooth speaker already, you can simply buy an Echo dot and can pair it up with your bluetooth speaker. Else, you can buy Echo or the bigger sibling Echo Plus but do note that the later two cannot be paired with other bluetooth speaker. You can group multiple Echo devices though and play the same music on all of them at the same time. Echo, the one I own has its own speaker and if you are more into Smart-home stuff and connected devices you should be looking at the Echo Plus, which has a smart hub built-in.

What can you do with Alexa in India?

Amazon has included Prime Music which is yet to be officially launched here with the Echo devices. To cater to the Indian audience they have Prime music, Savann and TuneIn for the music buffs. They can pull the music of your choice. Alexa is quiet fluent with the English songs but when you go local, it does struggle to pull out specific songs in local languages. It’s more like a hit or miss. Though, it could play radio channels and playlist more accurately than individual songs from Indian languages. Being an AI, it is only a matter of time when it is ease at local languages and their nuances. The only time you would be using the Alexa app, is to configure your device initially and also enable skills. Amazon has opened their platform to developers and there are thousands of skills to be enabled. There are many local skills that bring local flavour to your Alexa experience. You can also setup some routine for the devices. I have set a routine to play a particular devotional song my mom likes to hear at a particular time of the day. You can make your own routines and also reminders. You can also add to your shopping list and let me also add that there was an instance my son innocently ordered a Lego, which triggered the usual SMS that we get when an order is placed. Luckily, I noticed the SMS and still had time to cancel the order. So Alexa can do a bit of stuff for you. Unlike Facebook Lite which is still an app, the Twitter Lite has an URL that has to be typed onto a browser, preferably Chrome (I will give the reasons a litter latery on why) So, you need to key in mobile.twitter.com to access the lean and speedier diet Twitter.

Twitter Lite is feather light and on diet.

The only reason why you would be using the lite version is to save your precious data or your connection is slow and perhaps unreliable. Twitter Litealso takes up less than a megabyte, so if your mobile is less on storage space, you can delete the app and use this lightweight option.

Twitter Lite has a data saver option.

People share too many images, GIFs and videos on Twitter. Open the Twitter lite > go to the profile > enable the data saver. Now all the media contents will be blurred out and essentially it means they are not yet downloaded. If you want to view a particular media, you can tap on it and it will download and be clear.

Twitter Lite can be added to Homescreen like an app

People like app icons. It is not only visually appealing but they are just one click away to be accessed. If you are using Google Chrome, you would find an option add to home screen. So open the Twitter Lite on Chrome browser, click the add to home screen from the settings ( remember the three dots on the corner) . Bingo! the Twitter lite sits like any other app icon. It also shows on the app drawer. Tap on the icon, it opens the web lite version, thus giving you a near app usage feel.

Twitter Lite can still send notifications

Ok, Chrome can add it as almost like an icon but what about notifications? Yes, when added to homescreen via chrome, you won’t miss on the push notifications.

Unfortunately does not have the night mode (at least for now)

Google has release the beta version of YouTube Go and is now available for download in Play store. Google has today announced the roll out the beta version of YouTube Go in India. The beta version is now available for download on the Google Play Store. Tailored to the Indian consumers and taking note of the bandwidth availability and usage pattern of majority of online Indians, last year during the Google for India event, the company had announced the YouTube Go for the Indian market and now has made it available.

Here are the five key features of the YouTube Go app:

You can preview videos snippets before you decide to watch or save the video. The preview gives you an idea of what to expect out of the video before you decide upon it. The preview can be accessed when you tap on a thumbnail.
You get to choose the resolution when saving or streaming videos. It gives a basic quality and a standard quality and also gives the file size of each quality, so you can decide which one to opt for depending on your data plan.
The home screen of the app features trending and popular videos in your region to discover videos that might interests you.
There is a share videos with friends nearby option. The best part is doesn’t use any data. You can send and receive videos instantly and offline with others using YouTube Go app.
If you don’t like a video showing in the home page, you can remove it from your screen.

When we purchased our home few years back, my wife and I went through a lot of stress before we found the house that clicked almost all our expectations. At one point, my wife almost gave up.
