Nextbit Robin, the cloud-first Smartphone officially launched in India at Rs 19,999

From kickstarter to selling in India, Nextbit has come a long way in a short span. The San Francisco based Nextbit, founded by ex-Googlers, former head of Android business development Tom Moss and former head of Android power management Mike Chan, who came up with an ambitious ‘cloud first’ Android phone have started selling in India, their first product ‘Robin’. The name itself resonates uniqueness in an industry filled with alpha-numerical models, not just the name but the Nextbit Robin also has unique cool looks plus a new approach to deal with the phone’s storage. The Nexbit Robit is priced at Rs 19,999 and would be available on Flipkart starting 30th of May. While the Smartphone looks inviting and is available in two color choices – mint and midnight, it opts for a soft-touch polycarbonate body which is departure from this year’s trend of metal bodied phones. But to its credit, the phone looks very appealing. nextbit robin Robin has a 5.2-inch IPS display offering a 1080p resolution and strengthened by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4, it’s powered by a Snapdragon 808 chipset, 3GB RAM and has a 32GB internal storage. It runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. The key notable feature is its tight integration to cloud storage, by default it offers 100GB cloud storage. The cloud drive has its own user configurable settings to choose the backup architecture. It also allows to offload not-so-frequently used apps to be archived on cloud and bring it to local drive as and when required.  Robin leaves thumbnails of all archived content on the phone, making it easy to just tap and restore. On the camera side, there is a 13MP front with a dual-LED flash plus 5MP rear camera and also includes a 2680mAh battery pack and has a slim profile at 7mm. The finger print sensor is integrated to the power button on the side. It would be interesting to see if cloud-first approach finds traction in India.    ]]>
